If you have not heard the buzz in town about Director Tim Burton’s new production, “Alice In Wonderland”, you soon will because it is projected to be one of his best films ever.
The public is anxious to see any bit of footage of this 3-D adaptation although it will be some time because the move is still in the making. Word is that Tim is working on a semi-trailer that we all anxiously await that will give us a glimpse into Alice’s bazaar world.
Because the movie is still shooting live as we speak, the semi-trailer will be a “massive undertaking” says Director Tim Burton. “It’s a technological challenge of blurring the lines between live-action, motion-capture and animation. It’s a real mysterious puzzle that is frightening and exciting at the same time.”
Some of Tim Burton’s bazaar but entertaining films include Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Beetle Juice, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd and Batman Returns.
Alice In Wonderland will be another one of Tim’s ingenious recreations of fantasy and animation mixed with a cinema of color and graphics all colliding together in a very entertaining 3-D motion picture film that will have you talking about it for many years.
Australian actress Mia Wasikowska plays Alice, who is now 17 years old. Bored at a high society party in a Victorian estate, Alice wanders off only to be lead to the fantasy world of Wonderland by the White Rabbit played by Michael Sheen, who believes she is the “right Alice”, producer Richard Zanuck explains.
But Wonderland is more evil than the Wonderland we all know and love. It is a very wicked place ruled by the evil Red Queen of Hearts, played by actress Helena Bonham Carter, whose favorite retort in the movie is, “off with their heads!” So evil that she overthrows her good sister The White Queen played by actress Anne Hathaway.
There are some dark spins on this movie that only Burton himself can conjure up, like the evil Red Queen’s moat filled with bloody heads. But it all adds to the suspense, thrill, fun and entertainment this classic movie will offer.
You will be taken on a journey of Burton’s surreal interpretation of fantasyland with huge, colorful talking flowers taken from the talkative trees in the Wizard of Oz, to the garden of large topiaries shaped like giraffes, butterflies and dodos taken from Edward Scissorhands film.
Also, let us not forget the forest of giant mushrooms, the enigmatic Caterpillar played by actor Alan Rickman and the fierce Jabberwock played by Christopher Lee.
Burton gives the colorful Mad Hatter role to his long time friend, Johnny Depp who plays the part brilliantly as to be expected. Besides being nuts, The Mad Hatter is more colorful, funnier and deeply rooted in a more humane position.
Tune in to watch Alice overcome major hurdles to help her friends reclaim their world back from the evil Red Queen due is theaters March 5, 2010.
