Dedicated Server – Does Your Site Need One

An Internet connection is all that is needed to access millions of websites around the web. This is possible because these sites are hosted on computers that constantly run so they remain online 24 hours a day and 7 days of week. Of course, the average computer cannot do that unless it is running an extremely fast connection and remains turned on. Therefore, anyone that wants to set up their own website needs a web hosting provider.

Web hosting providers offer paid plans that keep your website up and running far better than the free ones provided. If you notice, most sites love to offer the cheapest plan because those plans are great for starters. But if you decide and check out the other packages available, you might see some dedicated web hosting plans.

Dedicated web hosting plans are much the same as a shared hosting plan, with one important difference: the site is held on its own server. Do you need dedicated hosting? Look at the following statements ” if all of them are true, then dedicated hosting is for you.

You Need Your Site To Be Safe

Protecting your website calls for using strong passwords to protect your database and using the latest, most secure versions of applications on your site. However, you could use all of the best protective measures and still suffer from the effects of attacks against another website on the same server as your own if you use a shared hosting plan. With a dedicated server, your site is the only one on the server; so if your site is safe, it’s going to be well protected.

You dont want your visitors to experience slowdowns

With a good server, a lot of traffic to a single site won’t make all that much difference to its performance. However, when there are many websites on a single server and all of them see a lot of traffic, every site hosted on that server will experience slowdowns. When it comes to the basics (like just loading up a page), this may not be too noticeable. However, if your site features a lot of audio or video content, it will load very slowly and this will be an irritant to your visitors. Using a dedicated server means that all of its resources are reserved for your site, so even when you experience heavy traffic you won’t see these slowdowns.

You Want To Have Total Control Over Your Server

Shared hosting plans do give you control over uploading content to your site, installing applications and setting privileges for your content and applications. However, if you need some more extensive control over server-side function like changing VPS settings and allowing root privileges for several people to maintain your site, then a dedicated server hosting plan is the way to go. With business-oriented sites, a dedicated server is almost always a better choice, since you’ll want to have complete control over how your site and your server are set up and maintained.

If not all of them are true, stick with shared web hosting until all three conditions are met so you can enjoy maximum savings. Shared web hosting is for webmasters that want to get started in building their websites. Eventually, the site will grow to the extent that a dedicated server is needed for it to grow more.
